Ventia Orbost TE Friable Asbestos Removals
About this project
Ventia manages a national facility maintenance contract on behalf of Telstra, which includes the identification, assessment, and removal of high-risk asbestos-containing materials (ACM). As a specialist hazardous materials contractor, RARE Environmental plays a critical role in supporting the safe and compliant delivery of this contract across multiple sites.
This particular project involved the remediation of asbestos-containing dusts throughout a Telstra exchange, resulting from the disturbance of asbestos-containing ceiling tiles. RARE, holding a Victorian Class A Asbestos Removal Licence, was engaged to undertake the complete removal, disposal, and replacement of all remaining ceiling tiles and associated asbestos dust contamination throughout the exchange.
How we helped
- Developed QHSE Management Plan, Telstra-specific permits and approvals, Asbestos Control Plan (ACP), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Risk Assessments, and Regulator Notifications.
- Ensured all site personnel were inducted and compliant with Ventia and Telstra site-specific requirements.
- Constructed a full negative pressure enclosure with an integrated wet decontamination unit to permit friable asbestos removal.
- Completed the safe removal of all ceiling tiles and associated asbestos-containing dust under full containment using friable asbestos removal procedures and PPE.
- All removal works were independently monitored, verified, and cleared by a Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA).
- Each removal stage was documented and signed off under a dedicated Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)
- All waste was double bagged, securely stored in a lined skip bin, and managed in accordance with EPA regulations.
- Transported and disposed of all asbestos waste under EPA waste tracking protocols to a licensed disposal facility.
