Ventia operates a national facility maintenance contract on behalf of Telstra, which includes the identification, assessment, and removal of various occupational hazards. As a specialist contractor, RARE Environmental plays a critical role in supporting Ventia’s national contract delivery.

During a recent site audit, concerns were raised about the presence of mould in certain sections of the ceilings at the Homebush Exchange. If left untreated, mould can pose significant health risks in the workplace, leading to various occupational illnesses.

To mitigate these risks, RARE was engaged to conduct an inspection, develop a remediation scope, and execute the safe removal of the identified mould under controlled conditions. 

• Liaised with site staff to coordinate works and prepare areas for isolation and containment.  

• Developed project documentation, ensuring compliance with Chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS).  

• Established the site as a mould remediation construction zone, implementing an enclosure to safeguard workers and the public. 

• Performed preparation works, including removing chattels from each room and placing drop sheets over porous items. 

• Removed mould under controlled conditions, using appropriate PPE within a sealed control enclosure and applying a specialist antibacterial cleaning formula designed to eliminate mould and inhibit further growth. 

• Applied multiple treatments to areas with heavy mould growth, ensuring complete removal. 

• Contained all mould waste within the exclusion zone, maintaining regular cleaning and upkeep of the drop sheets. 

• Secured and disposed of all waste in 200µm waste disposal bags to prevent contamination. 

• Conducted thorough decontamination of personnel, plant, and equipment upon completion of works.
