Ventia operates a facility maintenance contract on behalf of City of Sydney Council, which includes the critical task of managing hazardous building materials. As a specialist contractor, RARE plays a key role in supporting Ventia’s delivery of this contract throughout Sydney. 

Town Hall House required the removal and replacement of numerous fire doors that had reached the end of their service life. Prior assessments confirmed that most of these doors contained asbestos, adding an additional layer of complexity and safety considerations. To address this, RARE Environmental was engaged to safely remove and dispose of approximately 70 fire doors at the site. 

• Developed all safety documentation, including regulator notification for the Class A asbestos removal works. 

• Provided fully compliant Ventia/City of Sydney-approved asbestos removal personnel. 

• Conducted out-of-hours asbestos removal by attending the site after business hours, minimising disruption to Town Hall House’s daily operations and allowing for the efficient removal and replacement of fire doors. 

• Executed the safe and controlled removal of a designated number of doors each night, ensuring the project remained on schedule while meeting fire safety standards. 

• Thoroughly cleaned door frames and cavities to eliminate residual dust and debris, ensuring a clean and safe environment post-removal. 

• Arranged independent air monitoring and clearance for each door removed. 

• Implemented strict containment measures by securely enclosing all removed doors in 200µm plastic, preventing potential asbestos fibre release during transportation and disposal.
