SSAA recently acquired the Auburn Shooting Range as part of its portfolio expansion in NSW.

At the time of acquisition, the range was in a derelict state and required repairs and maintenance before it could be opened for public use. Significant mould and lead dust contamination were identified throughout various areas of the facility, which needed to be addressed before any further works could proceed.

RARE Environmental, a specialist remediation contractor, was engaged to conduct an initial assessment of the mould and lead contamination, develop a remediation Scope of Work (SOW), and execute the remediation process to facilitate subsequent maintenance and upgrade works.  

• Engaged and collaborated with an independent Occupational Hygienist to conduct inspection and testing for the presence of mould and lead.  

• Prepared a detailed findings report, confirming that mould and lead levels exceeded occupational standards, forming the basis for a remediation Scope of Work (SOW). 

• Developed Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), risk assessments, and remediation management plans, and conducted comprehensive pre- and post-removal lead blood level testing. 

• Established the site as a controlled mould and lead remediation zone under a negative pressure enclosure.  

• Executed meticulous cleaning of all impacted surfaces, including direct strip-out works, under controlled conditions and in strict compliance with PPE requirements. 

• Contained all mould and lead waste within the exclusion zone, ensuring regular cleaning and upkeep of the enclosure. 

• Oversaw independent testing and clearance works conducted by the Occupational Hygienist following remediation. 

• Secured and disposed of all waste in 200µm waste disposal bags, preventing contamination. 

• Conducted thorough decontamination of personnel, plant, and equipment upon completion of works.
