Marrinawi and Nawi Cove Water and Sediment Assessment
About this project
RARE was engaged by Infrastructure NSW (INSW) to provide environmental consulting services for the assessment of sediment and water quality at Marrinawi Cove and Nawi Cove, Barangaroo, NSW.
The objective of the works was to assess the current contamination status of Marrinawi and Nawi Coves, limited to sediment and water quality, and determine the potential risks to human receptors for proposed recreational use.
Rare utilised their customised research vessel, ‘Reel Time Data’, for the collection of surface water and sediment samples from Marrinawi and Nawi Coves. Following the successful opening of Marrinawi Cove for recreational use, RARE is now undertaking ongoing water quality monitoring at both Marrinawi and Nawi Coves.
How we helped
- Safe and efficient collection of sediment and surface water from one of NSW most high-profile locations.
- Targeted water quality monitoring and sediment sampling via clam shell sampler from the research vessel, accessing up to 1.5m from the cove edge in less than 1m of water.
- Field works and technical reporting were completed within 7 days of engagement.
