EHO Woolloomooloo Lead Paint Removal Works
About this project
As part of the overall refurbishment of the 24 units at the site, a lead in paint assessment was conducted which identified all external paints to be lead containing.
This presented a hazardous environment for contractors who were required to undertake the refurbishment works.
RARE, a specialised hazardous material contractor, was engaged by EHO Consulting to undertake the complete removal of all lead-containing paint systems at the site before the refurbishment works could proceed.
How we helped
RARE Environmental delivered a comprehensive set of services on-site including:
- Biological monitoring of all RARE staff and notification of lead risk works to the regulator.
- Development of project documentation, including a detailed Lead Management Plan, review and adherence to Chemical Safety Data Sheets and Product Data Sheets.
- Site establishment as a lead construction site with the implementation of an exclusion zone to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
- Under controlled conditions and with full personal protective equipment (PPE), lead paint removal utilising chemical strippers to the metal works of balconies, metal fencing, railings, and timber windows.
- Containment of all lead waste within the confines of the lead exclusion zone including regular cleaning and maintenance of the drop sheets across the scaffolding.
- Manage and contain all lead paint waste generated by placing in 200µm waste disposal bags and placement within a suitably lined skip bin.
- Personnel, plant and equipment decontamination at the conclusion of the works.
- Transport of all lead waste under EPA consignment and disposal as hazardous waste.
