Civilcraft Jervis Bay Airfield Asbestos Pipe Removals
About this project
Jervis Bay Airfield is a military aerodrome located in the Jervis Bay Territory and operated by the Royal Australian Navy. Civilcraft was engaged to undertake maintenance, and upgrade works on the runways to ensure their continued operation.
During initial preparation works, a network of asbestos service conduits was identified alongside the existing stormwater drainage line, which was scheduled for upgrading.
With specialist Defence clearance and extensive asbestos removal experience, RARE Environmental was engaged to manage the safe and controlled excavation of the asbestos pipework, including its transport and off-site disposal.
How we helped
- Engaged with regulators and submitted notifications to SafeWork NSW and Comcare.
- Developed and implemented all project documentation, including a detailed Asbestos Removal Control Plan and an Asbestos Awareness Presentation.
- Established asbestos controls on-site, including clearly signposted exclusion zones and a designated decontamination area.
- Supervised and executed the controlled removal of asbestos pipework from within the trench line, with additional manual labouring support as required.
- Contained all removed asbestos service pipework within designated waste disposal bags.
- Conducted emu picking and thorough clearing of each trench following the removal of pipework.
- Transported and disposed of all asbestos waste under EPA tracking to a licensed disposal facility.
