RARE was engaged to prepare five buildings for long term lease by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust. The buildings formed part of a Naval Barracks on a now historically significant site. The buildings contained heritage listed items, requiring protection during the works.

The works involved:

• Removal of friable and non-friable asbestos products
• Clean and strip out of commercial kitchen and bar area
• Removal of all original soft and hard furnishings
• Removal and mitigation of lead paint and encapsulation of more recent lead bonded
• Replacement of  aging asbestos roof sheets with modern non-hazardous materials to reduce impact to site users and surrounding environs.

The site was located adjacent to commercial facilities and extensively used public parklands on a key connecting road. RARE was additionally required to maintain traffic flow for nearby businesses.
